Describe
yourself in 3 words: In just 3 words???? Ok, 1.
Compassionate 2. Giving 3. Easy
going.
Food: I don't care for too
spicy foods. But I love all ethnic foods and American. I'm not
a big fan of meat and I love seafood and chicken. I enjoy trying new
dishes but if it don't look good, I tend to hesitate. But then
again, once I thought I'd never eat "natto" which is Japanese
beans and appears very sticky. Now I love it.
Restaurants:
Roy's, Diamond Head Grill, Panya Bistro, Gyo Kyaku, Chai's
Island Bistro, Michels, Assagios, California Rock n' Sushi, Verbano's,
Aunte Pastas, Gibson's in Chicago, Morton's in Los Angeles, to name a few.
Drink:
I love water and prefer it over juice and sodas.
Alcohol:
Ketel One with a splash of club soda. On occasions
only. And good wine with good friends.
Drugs: I'm
anti drug. I don't even take aspirin unless I can't get out
of bed. I think in an entire year, I took aspirin maybe
once. As for all the other drugs, life is so short to begin
with, why take any chances of having bondage. We all had
opportunities, but I think just saying NO is a high in
itself. Being in control is a high.
Favorite
Hangout: Well for dancing and release, I enjoy the Ocean Club,
W Hotel, 3660 on the rise, and some other private venues.
Clothes:
Because I'm constantly shooting outdoors a lot, I like tank tops,
vests and shorts. As for evening wear, I tend to like clothes that
are more tapered to the body and not too baggy. I don't want to
disappear in all that material.
Designer:
Rock n' Republic, Dolce & Gabanna, Custo, Armani, Raymond Dragon, Kenneth Cole, Paul Smith,
Roberto Cavali to name a few.
Music:
I think all dancers past or present can appreciate a variety of
music. Classical, Jazz, Broadway musicals, new age, Celtic
instrumentals, hip hop, techno, trance, Latin, R&B are my favorites.
Singers: James
Blunt, Amos
Lee, John Legend, Gavin Degraw,Christina Aquilera, Natasha
Beddingfield, Michael Blube, Celine Dion, Andre Bocelli, Elton John, Enrique Iglasias, Cici W., Vanessa
Williams, Madonna to name a few.
Movies:
I love fiction movies or movies with a great message, or movies that
involve dance. I loved The Color Purple, Crouching Tiger, Anna
and the King, Forest Gump, Legally Blonde, Moulin Rouge to name a few. Still have to see Save the
Last Dance. Actor:
Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Matt Damon, Denzel
Washington, Jodi Foster, Meg Ryan, Gwenyth Paltrow to name a few.
Cars:
You know, I find European cars attractive but, I'm somewhat
practical. I like a car that does what it has to with ease.
Like anything, what appears on the outside is not always as cool on the
inside.
Cameras: I use
Canon, Nikon and Pentax. But I'd have to say, I don't have one that
I like more than the other. I think a camera is just a tool. I
actually started with a old Fujica camera that I got as a gift and that
camera went through miles. Some of my favorite work came from that
old faithful.
As a photographer, what do you
look for in your subjects? After
doing this for so long, my eye is so trained on the overall.
But what's so special is that I don't look as much as I
feel. I usually feel the energy of the model or person I'm
working with. Regardless if the person is insecure, nervous,
holds some attitude, I usually always find the gap to where their
beauty is stored. So what I look for? I look for who
they are.
If you weren't a
photographer, what do you think you would be doing? I
have worked for a company for a long time during my dancing years
and picked up a lot of skills. From payroll, computer light
programming, business reports, management skills, etc. I
think I'd still have my own business today since I've always been
my own boss.
Reflecting
on your dancing years, what are your memories? Well,
lots of rehearsing, and being that I started at 14, I had to teach
myself to be disciplined. I rarely saw my peers and grew up
in the fast lane. But the exciting moments were being in Las
Vegas at 16 alone with friends with VIP treatment. Winning
an audition of 25 couples for the national television show Dance
Fever (20 Century FOX). Dancing down on Hollywood and Vine
street in LA with new friends from other states. Appearing twice
on the Hawaiian Moving Company. Being sponsored by
Toyota. All the screw ups like my partners leg getting stuck
between 2 small pillars next to a stage, having glitter splattered
all over my face while performing by mistake. It was so
funny, the girl in front of me threw her glitter to far
back! Oh, and I'll never forget we had this huge show
to do and my shirt had to be altered and I didn't get it back till
the night of the show and they made a mistake and sewed the left
cuff of my shirt to the right! It was so hilarious.
But at the time, it was not funny.
Holidays:
I love Christmas and New Years. Christmas for me is always very
special. It is a time of worship and giving. It's the spirit of
Christmas that touches me. Knowing that I am so grateful to be on
this earth to celebrate and give to those I love. New Year's adds a
feeling of rebirth. It's like shedding the old skin and dumping old
baggage and becoming new again.
Favorite
compliment received: "You make me smile."
Do
you find it difficult being sought after in this industry?
Yes. Sometimes it's hard because you never know who's being
sincere. Luckily, I'm very sensitive to energy and that
helps me a lot. Feeling what is real and what's not.
Like anything, it get's lonely at the top."
Favorite
way of relaxing: Meditating with candles and soothing
music usually does the job for me. I love candles. But I
also find, sitting close to nature with someone with great energy
relaxing.
What
makes you happy? A lot of things make me happy. But
if you want one thing, I'd say knowing that I'm able to make
others happy is what makes me happy. I don't know, life to
me is all about each moment and I feel if you can make someone
happy in your moments, wow, that makes a happy life.
If
there were any mistakes you made in life that you regret, what is
it: Well, I think we all make mistakes in life and to me, they
are just choices made at the wrong time. I would have to
say, there was a time I gave too much to the wrong person.
But I really don't think I regret anything. These instances
in my life has molded me to who I am.
Religion:
I believe all religion is good as long as it brings peace, healing, love
and joy to one's heart and creates fellowship and unity amongst all
colors. I've indulged in Buddhism in my past and now a Christian. |
What
do you look for in a person: Uniqueness, character,
pureness, honesty, humor, warmth, and intelligence.
What
grabs your attention in a person: Someone that is real.
Someone that has good energy and embraces life and has compassion for
people. That really grabs me.
How
many close friends do you have? I have TONS of friends. Hmmmmm, I'd have to say about
10 if "close" means they know the taste of my heart.
What
do friendship mean to you? Friendship is very important to
me. It's what makes my world spin. Success is nothing
without good friends to share with.
What do you think it is about your personality and humanity that draws so many people to your soul?
Well for me, it's all about being real. Someone once
told me that I have this special gift with people's souls.
I'm still trying to learn more on the affect I have on people
however, I think it's because I really do feel a person's energy
and embrace them from within. I've
been told many times before from all types of people that I'm like
this angel. An angel I say. Hmmmm. Well, I'd like to
believe that I do add light to some individuals lives.
How
do you feel or deal with those that are jealous of
you? You know, I've learned that's something to NOT
feel. You can't let jealousy get to you. People will
make their own choices no matter what. I've dealt with
jealousy a lot with my dancing and photography and personal
life. Example, there are some individuals that will give
attitude just because of someone I'm with. Because he or she
may be physically beautiful they react with jealousy. But
what they don't know is that my connection with whom I share with
has nothing to do with what they look like. It's all about their
soul. And I think that's a very powerful thing. Embracing one's soul is something no one can touch. And
there are few that can appreciate that. Someone once told me
in an interview that the reason I would have to have that kind of
jealous energy around me is because I'm "real" and there
are people who can't comprehend realness. I think they just
haven't evolved yet and there will be a time they will be able to
see and feel the value of what's real.
So
what would your message be to those who are jealous? Hmm,
wish I had the power to make whatever I would have to say sink in
or have some affect. I would say, that we must learn to LET
GO. Everyone has a special soul and until you taste it, one
should not judge. To me, jealousy or having strong ill
feelings for someone creates self-harm and can be destructive on
oneself. Sometimes I get really strange and just want to show love
to ALL. I mean, even if someone did me wrong, sometimes I
wish I could just tell them, "I know you like me, Let's enter
a new phase and bring new light to our lives!"
Did I answer the question?
What
is one thing you're misunderstood for?
I get misunderstood a lot. People tend to think I'm stand
offish at times. Or they get me all wrong. I've been
told several times that because I stand for what is right, people
at times take that as attitude. But it's not that, if
someone ask me a question, I will respond honestly. And
depending on the situation, it may offend another party however,
it's what's right for the person to know the truth. I think we
have the choice to either live with just agreeing with someone or
take the responsibility as a human being and do what's
right. Especially in this industry, it's not easy being so
honest, but, I am because I refuse to let this industry change me.
What
would your message be to someone who is a drug user? Well,
depends, if they are a social user or addicted to it. Either
to me is a hard place to be. With so many reasons associated
to "why" they are using. But I think ultimately it
is a self-esteem issue, and that is just my opinion.
However, my message would be that in order for us to transcend, we
need to descend. And in order for us to be there, we have to
be all there. Challenges in life come to us and we have the
opportunity to break through them and grow. There are people
who have no choice but to be stuck in a wheel chair or dying of
cancer. But even these individuals wake up each morning and
make their challenges one with positive results. We just
have to be grateful that we have what we have and the choice and
freedom to build on it.
If
you could be heard by millions across the world, what would your
message be? Geez, I got so much I'd like to say. I
would say, to be more selfless with others and you will discover
more beauty in life, people and within. I often struggle
with accepting why there are so much selfishness out there and I'm
sure it's part of the ying and yang. But I must say, being
selfless has brought colorful blessings that enhances your inner
self, spirit and soul. I often wonder how it feels to be
selfish. I think it would be interesting but lonely.
You
say that you are real, what does that mean? Well to me,
being real means you say it as it is. I would not say
something is good if I don't think it's good. Example, I stand for
my friends regardless and if one has done my friend wrong, I'd
stand for them behind and in front of that person. But the
saddest thing is to see when someone says they are your friend and
in front of that person, they, knowing that the person is not of
good energy, they would play as if they are on that side.
Because in the big picture, they are only watching out for them self
and saving face. I mean, that's up to them, however
when I see things like this, it saddens me cause it only proves
that there are NOT much individuals that really know what a true
friend is. So to answer the question, being real means being
able to stand for what is right. And NOT saving face
just...because."
What
would your message be to teenagers today: To be
real. To believe that your existence has a great meaning and
the joy is discovering yourself. To let no one govern your
life but yourself. To be unique and NOT a dime a dozen
person. Absorb what your parents say, because they have been
through it. To respect your parents and know that they have
feelings and are just as human as you are. Choose and stand
for what is right because it's a very powerful thing. And
most importantly, be your own self and let God be the only one to
judge you.
