WHAT MATTERS
“I saw her shine and so I decided to call it Russell
Tanoue’s Project Shine,” says Tanoue.“My whole journey with this project
and working with my recipients is giving them that moment to shine and
really capture how they see themselves.”
The first two participants of Russell Tanoue’s Project
Shine were Lessa Loftin, who has lupus, and Deborah Ardolf, a
middle-aged speech pathologist who was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, an
incurable autoimmune disease.
Both participants say that their experience with Tanoue
and Project Shine changed their lives forever. They felt special. They
felt beautiful. Their spirits were restored. That gift is something they
will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Tanoue is currently in the process of making this project
an official non-profit organization. In the future, he hopes to expand
Project Shine, perhaps taking it to other cities, as well as launching
other community programs.
“Everyone should use their talents in a positive way to
touch people’s lives,” says Tanoue.
